We believe that we can best follow Jesus if we have hope that God is trustworthy, that God does exist, and that God does in fact love us. We believe that we can best follow Jesus if we are healthy. We believe we become healthy as we are healed of the barriers that exist between us and God.
We believe that many people give up hope because they don't believe that they see God or experience His blessings. Our church is structured to emphasis God's presence in our lives and to bless others in the name of Jesus. We believe that when we are present in the lives of others they will begin to see and understand that God is present. We believe that when we bless others through the guidance of the Holy Spirit that they will begin to know that God is blessing them. We believe that God instructs us to be present on His behalf and bless on His behalf and in this way people will have hope.
We believe that many Christians are unable to serve God fully because of the barriers that exist in their lives. Being healthy means removing these barriers.
We believe that we are called to be healthy spiritually. To be healthy spiritually means that we are living obediently to Jesus, that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, and that we live in relationship with God as directed by the Holy Spirit. Any sin that exists in our life is a barrier to being spiritually healthy. We believe that God heals us from our sins and restores us to be His child when we allow God to do so.
We believe that we are called to be healthy physically. To be healthy physically means that our bodies are well maintained and are fit. We believe that we are better able to serve God's plan when we are physically fit and that we are better able to resist temptation when we have sufficient energy and are not tired. We recognize that many have physical disabilities or diseases. We believe that it is possible for God to heal us from these physical ailments, but we also recognize that many times we must continue to live with the disabilities or diseases and that God uses them to reveal His glory. At times the suffering can be so great, it is hard to see this, but if the person maintains a heart of love and grace and lives a life present in the lives of others and blesses others in spite of their limitations, God is glorified and we believe the person receives what they need to do this. Recognizing that being physically fit is better in terms of avoiding temptation and serving God, we call our church members to work towards a state of physical fitness and to avoid activities and substances which are detrimental to their health.
We believe that we are called to be healthy emotionally. To be healthy emotionally means that we have an accurate view of the world and our place in it. Often times we gain a skewed view of reality based on past experiences, and this skewed view causes us to respond in a less effective manner with others. We also recognize that our emotional health can be influenced by medical conditions or other traumas which require medical assistance. We believe it is possible for God to heal us from these emotional afflictions and that God often uses others in the healing process. Where there are afflictions that remain we believe that if we are faithful in trusting God, that His purpose and glory will be revealed.
We believe that we are called to be healthy financially. To be healthy financially means that we recognize that all of our resources are given to us by God and that we are called to be good stewards of God's resources. We are good stewards when what we have is used in such a way as to glorify God. If our use of God's resources only serve our own purposes then we are not healthy financially. A house payment can glorify God if the house is used as a resource to better love your neighbors. A car payment can glorify God if the car is used to transport you to work where you actively seek to be present in the lives of your co-workers and seek to bless them. When we are unhealthy financially and have lots of bills that represent actions that only reflect our desires, then we are less able to share God's resources with others. We believe that it is possible for God to heal us financially, but this doesn't mean everyone will have riches. It is difficult to explain why some have much and some have little and it often seems to have little connection with a person's spiritual health, but we are confident that regardless of the amount of resources we have, we will be blessed if we use those resources to be healthy and to glorify God.
We mentioned healing in the previous section, but primarily we believe that God's goal is to heal everyone by returning us to what we were meant to be when God created mankind. Sometimes this healing doesn't take place until we enter God's Kingdom, but we have faith that God does love us, does desire for us to be healed, will heal us, and provides us what we need to persevere until it happens.
There will be those who claim Jesus and will be poor, homeless, and without food. We don't declare that they are sinful. Rather we seek to bless them as God has instructed us to do. Sometimes one will have difficulties in order to assist another. It is difficult to understand, but Jesus Himself was tortured and endured great suffering on our behalf. He explained that as Christians, we could expect similar things to happen to us. The difference between us and the world is that we have the Holy Spirit to comfort us. While our bodies, our minds, our souls, and our wallets, may suffer, we can endure and we can be healed if we trust in God.
Our church does believe that at times God will heal in a way that is a clear miracle. We also believe that at times God heals through the actions of others such as doctors or other professionals. We also believe that sometimes healing comes after we have left this life. We tend to struggle with this healing the most as we suffer the most. Imagine you have 2 children. In removing pain from one child, it would cause pain in your other child. Would you do it and what does it say of your love for both children? God is intimately at work with all of creation where the actions of not only every living person influences God's plan via obedience or disobedience, but also every plant and animal impact the next future moment. God is working within each and every action that may take place and always acts and responds in the manner that is best for all of creation. At times a miracle is performed when that action improves the future and God's Kingdom. Other times we do not experience immediate healing because God knows that to do so would cause harm in some other way. It is impossible for us to know what God knows or to understand why He sometimes heals and sometimes doesn't, but we must trust that every action God takes is loving and for our benefit.
