1. Start attending an existing Family Group Spend time learning the ropes first. 2. Each community must have the following: A leader, a host, an event planner, and a serve coordinator. 3. Each position must first serve as an apprentice of someone in that position. Once they have watched, assisted, and then been observed and found capable, an interview will be conducted. 4. Once a full team is assembled the location for the community will be reviewed for approval. 5. The church will then assist you in getting off the ground with prayer and support. We want to make sure you are able to be successful and not frustrated. 6. Each community will operate under the direction of the pastoral staff of the Nazarene church. 7. The community leader must be a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Other team members of the community do not have to be members of the church and may be involved with other churches. 8. All activities and any Biblical materials must agree with and support The Church of the Nazarene and its beliefs. (Don't worry there is a lot of room here, but each community must be respectful of who we are as Nazarenes and our positions on certain behaviors.)
Family Group Leader Job Description
The Community Leader is to provide guidance to their community, and to communicate the call that God has given our church and our communities. The community leader is responsible for the oversight of their team and ensures that all are performing their roles as necessary to encourage a healthy missional community. The leader is also responsible for ensuring that all participants in his/her community who have voiced a desire to follow Jesus are connected with a mentor group who will meet frequently with this person and help them mature in Jesus. The leader will ensure that any funds received or raised are properly accounted for through the accounting system of our church. The leader also works with his/her team to plan their schedule and to accommodate the schedule of our church for our celebration gatherings. The leader will update or assign the update of their electronic calendar and other social media sites where community information is provided. The leader will continue to pray for and seek an apprentice they can teach and train, so the apprentice can in turn lead their own community.
Host Job Description
The host ensures that the community exhibits a spirit of hospitality each time they gather. The host may provide their own home as a gathering location, but will also work with each site where the community gathers to ensure that everything required to gather successfully is present. The host will continue to pray for and seek an apprentice they can teach and train, so the apprentice can in turn host in their own community. The host also works to train all participants in the fine art of hospitality so that they can host neighbors and friends in their own homes.
Event Planner Job Description
The event planner works with the community leader to schedule and plan community nights. This includes working with the host to ensure the site is secured and is able to accommodate their community. The planner will work with his/her team to plan an event that is welcoming and inviting to their neighbors. The planer will continue to pray for and seek an apprentice they can teach and train, so the apprentice can in turn plan events in their own community. The planner also works to train all participants on how to be present in the lives of their neighbors.
Serve Coordinator Job Description
The serve coordinator works with the community leader to schedule ad plan service projects for the community. The coordinator must communicate with community participants and surrounding neighborhoods to find the best projects for the community. The coordinator will also communicate any funding requirements for the projects and communicate the goals and status for those funds. The coordinator will work with his/her team to acquire the tools and resources needed to successfully complete their service project. The coordinator will also communicate with the church serve coordinator and when necessary will work with other communities to combine resources and efforts in order to successfully complete their project. The coordinator will continue to pray for and seek an apprentice they can teach and train, so the apprentice can in turn coordinate projects in their own community. The coordinator also works to train all participants on how to serve and bless their neighbors.
