Let me give you an example. As a pastor I could dream about a church with thousands of people, a big fancy church building, and volunteers who are committed to doing the work of the church sacrificially. That might be what I think would be good and would even glorify God, but is still based on what I want and think is best. That dream just might not fit what God has been putting in place and although I think my dreams are great, I may find myself without the resources necessary to make my dream happen. That is extremely disappointing. Doesn't God want His Kingdom to grow? Doesn't God want the church to be bigger? Doesn't God want us to have nice facilities? How can I trust that God provides the resources I need if God doesn't help with that kind of dream?
Quite simply, it can't be my dream. It must be God's dream. I need to continue praying and reading God's word and be willing to allow God to do anything and everything necessary to fulfill His dream. We need the Holy Spirit to help us discern those dreams and plans that God has. I am confident that God will provide everything that is necessary to make His dreams happen.
Oh yeah. There is one more thing. It is possible that God's dream won't happen either even with the Creator of the Universe putting all of His resources behind it. How is that possible? It is possible if we, a resource of God, refuse to be a part of God's dream that God's dream won't happen. In fact each and every day, God's people either flat out tell God no, or are simply oblivious to God's dream and God's dreams and plans must change due to our refusal to be a part of God's dream.
My big, humongous unbelievable dream is to be a part of a church where everyone seeks to participate in God's dreams. Imagine what a church could do if everyone in that church gave God permission to use them in His dream. Do we doubt that God has the ability to pull off the most impossible dream if we play the role that God has set for us? Sometimes God does fulfill His dream, but just not with you, or your church, because you refuse to participate. Are you ready to be amazed? Just say yes.
In the Torrington Church, God has answered what I originally thought was an impossible dream. Based on our culture in Torrington, it is clear that one thing that is missing from many churches is a culture that is welcoming to younger people. I knew that we needed some resources to pull that off and that I was not that resource. This January a young woman who is interested in developing a music ministry and youth/college ministry is going to move to Torrington. She has been part of a Christian band for several years, has professional training in music, and has been assisting her parents in youth ministry. I almost didn't mention the opportunity to her. In part, because I had wanted to offer her an opportunity in another church where I was serving but she was already committed to another church. I sensed that she was transitioning and I listened to the shove that God was giving me.
At present we are a small church. We may never develop into a mega church with a big fancy building and thousands of people in one place. But I believe that God desires to reach not just the Torrington area, but all of Goshen county and all of Niobrara county. The Nazarene church won't be the only church to reach God's people in this area and we aren't the only resource in God's dream, but I certainly want to say yes and be a part of God's dream in reaching these two counties.
How would you like to be a part of something that is impossible for man? How would you like to be a part of something that helps people find out who they are meant to be and helps them have joy, peace, and hope in their lives? Say yes, and join us as a resource for God!
