One advisor is Desire. This advisor seeks to get you to make decisions that ensure that you are getting everything you want and deserve. This guy is all about protecting your interests. Another advisor is Emotion. This advisor can be kind of a drama queen and seeks lots of attention. Emotion tries to tell you how you should feel about other kingdoms and how those kingdoms feel about you. Emotion also often works with Desire to team to get you to do what they think you should do. It can be quite a show when they do team up because it can get quite loud and they usually get your blood pressure up.
There is another advisor who appears to have your best interests at heart, but it often seems like his advice benefits him more than you. In fact if you took the time to investigate further you would see that this advisor is actually giving you counsel that would result in him become king of your kingdom. This advisor is named Satan. He is kind of sneaky and often makes it look like his advice will benefit you, but it never does in the end. If you stop paying attention, Satan will often start talking to Emotion and Desire and use them to convince you to follow his advice.
There is one more advisor. You asked this advisor to be part of your kingdom. The advice from this advisor has always been spot on. The problem is that this advisor is actually very frank and open about the need for him to be the king of your kingdom. He doesn’t demand it. He doesn’t threaten you. But he constantly paints a picture of what your kingdom could be like if only you allowed him to be king instead. You constantly struggle with this. You are tired of being king and really tired of the noise coming from Emotion and Desire and even from your friends and loved ones. It seems like every time you start to get the kingdom on the right track something goes wrong. This advisor is really confusing. He promises that you will suffer and that you will be persecuted. He asks you to give up all the wealth you have as king. Yet, he promises that even in the midst of suffering, persecution, and giving up everything that if he is king, your kingdom will be the best it has ever been. This advisor is Jesus.
Making Jesus king of your kingdom can be a difficult decision. Many people invite Jesus to live in their kingdom and give them advice, but many fail to actually make Jesus king of their kingdom. The problem is that it is impossible to live and be like Jesus by just hearing from Jesus. The only way to be like Jesus is to let Jesus have full control and be king.
One more thing, Jesus doesn’t just ask to be king of your kingdom. Jesus asks you to give up your kingdom and let it be a part of God’s kingdom. Your kingdom has an expiration date. It won’t last forever. You can choose to be your own king for however long your kingdom exists, but then it is over. You can choose to let Jesus into your kingdom and give you advice, but that just means that you know what you could have, but don’t. The only way to be a part of the kingdom of the one who created everything is to give up being your own king and become a part of God’s kingdom. This is eternal life.
